Costuming VS Getting Your Life Together

As of late I have observed numerous individuals that are so passionate and focused on costuming that they unknowingly disregard the responsibilities of their personal life. I want to point out that there is certainly nothing wrong with being devoted to cosplay. Costuming is healthy. It is creative and takes hard work. To many, it is a form of self expression. To others, it can be therapeutic. Its fun and delightful to research a costume and put it all together. Sewing, painting, molding worbla, everything involved in creating a costume is bad ass. However if the craft has taken over your life to the point where you can hardly put food on the table, your living situation is not where it should be or majority of your paycheck is going to costume building yet you are creating Kickstarters for "life expenses", something is very, very wrong. Its time dear friends, to make a choice between costuming and getting your life together.



Ill be the first to admit that it completely and utterly sucks when you want to put a costume together but you just dont have the funds to do so. You feel stuck; like you have reached a dead end. The only thing you can do is make a U-Turn and try to find another way. That is not only an important lesson in costuming but in life. You have to make choices and sometimes those choices mean sacrifice and compromise. You need to change your perspective. What is more important? Spending hundreds of dollars buying supplies for your next costume or paying off your past due cell phone bill?  It boggles my mind when I come across someone on social media who is posting daily updates on all the supplies they purchased for their new costume and yet that same person will create a Kickstarter to pay their rent. If you didnt fork over your hard earned cash for supplies, you would have that money to pay your landlord or roomates. Is it really worth risking getting evicted just to make a costume? Is it worth loosing your home? And furthermore you are attending the next big convention out of state, thousands of miles from where you live. Pay your bills, my friend. Granted it stinks when you cant attend a show you have your heart set on but it will still be there next year and you can always live vicariously through your friends posting on social media. In many situations, it would be better for you financially to stay home. You will  be saving money on travel, hotel, food, costume building and shopping. You can pay your bills on time and may even have some money left over.

Ive observed many people who are stuck in a rut. They are accomplishing great things in costuming but their personal life is a mess.  They dont realize if they skipped a con or two or perhaps made a little less costumes this year, they would have more money in their pockets. Maybe you can finally upgrade your busted phone. Perhaps you can finally get those repairs your car so desperately needs. And maybe, just maybe, you can change your living situation and be independent.

Stop taking costuming so seriously. Redirect your focus from time to time. Do this only when you are financially able to. Stop sacrificing improving your life to attend a convention. Pick and choose because sooner or later, 10 years from now you ll be looking around wondering what the hell happened. You will not have made any progress and I dont want to see that happen to anyone and it pains me to witness it currently.  You can do better. You can progress in the real world and grow. I believe in you :)

The robot is here to draw your blood

A company has produced prototype robots that can draw blood from human arms. Here is a 48 second video showing one of them in action.



Using an infrared camera, the robot identifies a suitable vein and accesses the vein with ultrasound guidance.

A second video, not embedded in this post, explains that the robot is about 83% successful at drawing blood which compares favorably to the success rate of experienced human phlebotomists. The robots inventor hopes to refine the procedure to get the success rate up to 90%.

It also says that there are 9 billion blood draws per year in the United States suggesting that a market is certainly there.

The second video also mentions the discomfort patients experience when a phlebotomist misses or damages the vein.

However, the robot needs quite a bit of help from a human phlebotomist both before and after the actual blood draw takes place.

The robot cant apply a tourniquet, cant wipe the skin with alcohol, can’t take the cover off the needle, once the vein is accessed cant actually remove the blood from the vein with a syringe, cant take off the tourniquet [the human assistant didn’t do it correctly either*], can’t apply pressure to the puncture site, cant put a Band-Aid on the skin, and can’t safely dispose of the needle.

It’s not clear what the robot would do if a patient flinches or withdraws his arm. Patients have been known to do those things.

For the foreseeable future, the robot would have to be accompanied by a human. So whatever the cost of the robot, personnel would not be eliminated.

Its a clever idea, but I don’t think a robot will be drawing your blood any time soon. ________________________________________________________

Okay , so how can i start doing this? well, first off you should sit down and read this ALL article because all my articles are helpful. Alot of people contacted me saying why i am giving so much information FOR FREE! 

And i say to myself , hey , why not? I mean i know how it feels to not make a dime online, i know exactly how it feels to spend money on stuff that DOES NOT WORK!! I mean we all know that right?

But , this particular article is about how you can make money with adfly and a new blog.

First , you need to pick a NICHE , and that is something you are going to talk about on your blog , like there is PLENTY of stuff you can talk about like honestly , this is NOT the only blog i have and i put effort to. 

You should pick a niche that you will be HAPPY to upgrade every single day , like you dont even need to post more than one post , but at least log in every single day and post something new and the most important thing HELPFUL! 

People will love you because you giving them TONS of FREE information but you also EARNING money from those information , and i will explain exactly how in a sec. DO NOT skip all this, you need to read everything...

After you decide what niche you are going to pick then you will go to blogger and create your own blog, now i have TONS of tutorial on how to do so , on how to create your blog so i am sure you do not have any problem with that. Creating a blog is REAL simple and EASY and also FREE ! 

So after you create your blog on blogger.com then you are going to name your blog something with keywords, now what is keyword? I also have tutorials around this blog on what is keyword and more stuff search for it :) 

Once you pick a keyword put in mind you already will make money, lets make an example.

If you are talking about "The Walking Dead" then you will go to google and search for keywords and make sure you see keywords that dont have that much competition so you can rank #1 on google. 

So your blog will be called "Walking Dead Unseen Shows" and you named your blog just like that, what you  are going to do next? You will find a template and put some new walking dead shows from youtube (doesnt have to be the whole show) but some , and you can put down below the video you can put "SEE THE FULL EPISODE HERE NOW!!!!!" and you will look online for the FULL episode (THEY DO HAVE IT) and short it on adfly and put it on your blog so when they click on "SEE THE FULL EPISO HERE" you will earn money. 

Now this works like crazy if you take action , like i said it doesnt have to be "The Walking Dead" but that is something that is FAMOUS right now, so i am sure you want to see what is famous right now?

Well , i have a website that shows you what is TRENDING right now on google & youtube & yahoo & facebook and more more more.. They tell you what is HOT on those websites.

Antibiotics for appendicitis No thanks

The long-awaited Finnish randomized controlled trial of antibiotics vs. surgery for appendicitis was just published in JAMA. Depending on your perspective, 73% of patients were successfully treated with antibiotics or 27% of patients failed antibiotics and needed surgery.

The good news is that it was a large multicenter study involving 273 patients randomized to surgery and 257 to antibiotics. Patients included in the study had uncomplicated appendicitis as diagnosed by CT scan.

The bad news is that the paper has many limitations.

Of the patients who underwent appendectomy as the primary treatment, only 15 (5.5%) had laparoscopic surgery. The authors state that open appendectomy was selected as the protocol operative technique because laparoscopic instruments may not be available worldwide and apparently many surgeons in Finland are not experienced in performing laparoscopic appendectomies.

In most Western countries, laparoscopic appendectomy is the procedure of choice. In the United States, at least 80% of all appendectomies (not just those done in patients with early or simple appendicitis) are done laparoscopically. Laparoscopic appendectomy has a much lower complication rate than open. This renders the comparison of complications of surgery (20.5%) and antibiotics (2.8%) in the Finnish randomized trial meaningless. The Finnish authors did not consider failure of antibiotic treatment a complication. Had they done so, the complication rate would have been higher for the antibiotic group.

The hospital length of stay for the surgery patients in the JAMA study was a median of three days. A paper from Texas published last year found that of 345 patients who had laparoscopic appendectomies for uncomplicated appendicitis, 88% were managed as outpatients. They spent a total of about eight hours in the hospital from admission to discharge and had a complication rate, including readmission, of 2.8%.

The antibiotic chosen for the in-hospital treatment in the JAMA study nonoperative group was ertapenem—a once-a-day drug that costs $80 per dose. How available is ertapenem in low- and middle-income countries?

The follow-up in the current paper was only one year. Is it realistic to expect that no more patients will have recurrences of appendicitis in the following years?

The inconvenience and costs of the extra hospitalization for the 27% of patients who failed antibiotic therapy were not addressed.

The stated goal of the trial was to prove the noninferiority of antibiotic therapy for appendicitis. By the authors own admission, the result failed to meet their prespecified criterion for noninferiority. In plain English, this means the trial showed antibiotic therapy is inferior to surgery for the treatment of uncomplicated acute appendicitis.

Early last year, I blogged about the potential problems with this study and said, "A randomized trial of antibiotics vs. surgery for uncomplicated appendicitis is underway in Finland. Judging from the wording of the abstract describing the trial, the authors are markedly biased toward the use of antibiotics. Despite this, lets hope it sheds some much needed light on this subject." Too bad that did not happen.

Other than Dr. Edward Livingston, a surgeon who wrote a favorable editorial accompanying the paper in JAMA, I do not know of any surgeons who would opt for antibiotics to treat appendicitis for themselves or their family members.

A more realistic randomized trial is planned by surgeons in Washington State. Until that study is published, I’ll stick with surgery for uncomplicated appendicitis.

Narcotic addicts can sue doctors and pharmacies for enabling them

In a 3-2 decision, the Supreme Court of West Virginia ruled that narcotic addicts may sue pharmacies and physicians for facilitating their addictions.

A suit was brought on behalf of 29 pain center patients who had been treated with narcotics for various injuries and became addicted. One article quoted the Chief Justices explanation: "A plaintiff’s wrongful or immoral conduct does not prohibit them from seeking damages as the result of the actions of others."

The court recognized that most of the plaintiffs "admitted their abuse of controlled substances occurred before they sought help "at the pain clinic.

Another story said, "The justices paved the way for people to claim damages for allegedly causing or contributing to their addictions of controlled substances—even if they broke the law by doctor shopping."

In a dissenting opinion, one justice wrote that the decision “requires hardworking West Virginians to immerse themselves in the sordid details of the parties’ enterprise in an attempt to determine who is the least culpable—a drug addict or his dealer.”

In response to the ruling, the West Virginia Medical Association issued a statement: "It may cause some physicians to curb or stop treating pain altogether for fear of retribution should treatment lead to patient addiction and/or criminal behavior. It may create additional barriers for patients seeking treatment for legitimate chronic pain due to reduced access to physicians. It would allow criminals to potentially profit for their wrongful conduct by taking doctors and pharmacists to court."

A post on the American Pharmacists Association website explained that pharmacists were included in the ruling "because they were aware of the pill mill activities of the medical providers. The plaintiffs said these pharmacies refilled the controlled substances too early, refilled them for excessive periods of time, filled contraindicated controlled substances, and filled synergistic controlled substances."

One newspaper summarized the public reaction to the ruling in an editorial stating, "Those who are illegally abusing prescription narcotics should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The same goes for medical professionals who are found guilty of committing a criminal act. But telling a drug addict or someone who is illegally abusing prescription narcotics that it is OK to go to court and file what could very well be a frivolous lawsuit is both baffling and shameful. This ruling by the Supreme Court justices is a clear back eye for West Virginia. And it does nothing to help West Virginia’s rampant drug problem."

As I wrote last year, I think the prescription drug abuse epidemic all stems from a 15-year campaign that declared pain is the fifth vital sign—a concept which is both untrue and as we have come to learn, harmful.

I agree with the WVMA. If I were practicing in West Virginia, I would be very reluctant to prescribe narcotic pain medication to any patient.
