5 Bad Ass Latinas of the 80s

0 komentar
Latinas became somewhat of a trend in American cinema and television in the 1980s. Many actresses landed big roles that were specifically written for a Hispanic actress while others, broke down stereotypes. We even saw a faux Latina in the blockbuster film, Aliens. Heres a rundown of the Leading Latinas (and one honorary Latina) of the 80s.

Maria Conchita Alonso - The Running Man (1987). The Cuban beauty, who was crowned Miss World Teenager 1971, starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger as Amber Mendez in this blockbuster film about a police helicopter pilot who is framed for murdering hundreds of civilians and sent to fight to the death in a Hunger Games like death match. Amber Mendez is a musician and gets pulled into the chaos when Richards (Schwarzenegger) breaks into her apartment and is taken hostage. Her character is eventually forced into the games as well where she fights for her life. The beauty queen has had steady work throughout the years and can be seen next in The Portraits Secret (2017).

Daphne Zuniga- Spaceballs (1987). The half Guatemalan actress stars as Princess Vespa in this cult comedy film directed by comedy legend, Mel Brooks. The Star Wars parody features Zuniga as a Princess Leia knockoff who runs out on her wedding day and is tracked down by Lone Starr and his furry companion, Barf. She is eventually kidnapped by Dark Helmet and must fight for her freedom and the galaxy. The blue eyed stunner has gone on to star in the successful television series Melrose Place and One Tree Hill. She currently has 4 upcoming projects to be released in 2015 and 2017.

Elpidia Carrillo- Predator (1987). Mexican actress Elpidia also starred alongside action star Arnold Schwarzenegger as Anna, a survivor of the Predator attack in the jungles of South America. Schwarzenegger and his group of military men take her into custody and after a gruesome and bloody battle in the jungle, she and Schwarzenegger are the lone survivors. The actress has also starred in Law and Order, the feature film Seven Pounds and the television series Nashville.

Rita Moreno- The Love Boat (1983). Puerto Rican actress Rita Moreno was the first performer ever to win an Oscar, a Grammy, a Tony and an Emmy which to this day, is something very few artists have achieved. Most known her for her memorable performance as Anita in West Side Story (1961), Moreno has continued to work throughout the decades. In the 80s she appeared in a number of television shows such as The Love Boat, Nine to Five, Miami Vice, Sesame Street and many more. Miss Moreno is still working and has made appearances on the hit show, Jane the Virgin.

Honorary Latina Jenette Goldstein-Aliens (1986). American actress Jenette Goldstein was born to Jewish parents in California and attended drama classes at an early age. Jennete auditioned and won the role of Pvt. Vasquez in James Camerons Aliens while performing at a theater in London. With her flawless accent and altered appearance (thanks to the makeup department), Goldstein was so convincing that many believed she was in fact, a Latina. Pvt. Vasquez was a badass and the Marines Smart Gun Operator who was sent to investigate the loss of contact of the colony, Hadleys Hope. After a battle with the alien lifeforms and running out of ammunition, the injured Vasquez was rescued by Lt. Gorman however they were surrounded and committed suicide with a grenade, taking many of the enemies with them. Jenette was last seen in the feature film, Under the Hollywood Sign (2014).

5 Cosplay Artists You Should Be Watching!

0 komentar

The grand hobby of costuming has exploded over the last few years. Hundreds of thousands of cosplay accounts exist on tumblr, Deviant Art, Facebook and other places across the web. There are many talented individuals on the scene but Id like to take this moment to highlight some of my personal favorites. I bring you (in no particular order) 5 Cosplay Artists You Should Be Watching.

 Traci Hines
Words cant express my love and adoration for Traci Hines. She is hands down, the best Ariel I have ever seen and can bring any Disney Princess to life with flawless accuracy. This gorgeous red head also  crossplays and is a talented singer. She has done a series of covers and has recorded her own original music. Last year she launched her own successful t-shirt line titled "Adorkable". The original hipster mermaid has legions of adoring fans, myself included. I promise you wont be disappointed when you check out her music and costume work.

Cosplay Kitten
Heidi aka Cosplay Kitten is one of my favorites for many reasons. When I first began costuming back in 2006, I quickly became a fan of her work. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail are first class. She has made costumes from all different genres including anime, video games and comic books. She is absolutely beautiful and is very kind and gracious to everyone. The best part of Heidi is that shes fun and a big geek like the rest of us! I always look forward to what this beauty will create next!

Faces of Freya
Theres no doubt about it; Freya kicks ass! She has quickly become one of my favorite artists on the scene. She works hard to maintain that knock-out figure. In addition to cosplay, she is also a historical actress and charity worker. Freya is fun, sexy and exciting. Her photographs are stunning to look at. She truly emulates the spirit of the characters she is portraying.  I find this woman inspiring on so many levels and look forward to seeing her on the convention floor!

Michael Cox
Batman never looked this epic! Michael Cox has an impressive collection of handmade costumes that just keep on getting better and better. His recent armored Batman literally blew me away when I saw it at this years Megacon Convention. In addition to crafting and creating, Michael is also a Council Member of the Heroes Alliance Charity Organization and has been doing super hero charity work for the last several years. This true life super hero is one of the nicest guys around and very humble but watch out for his wicked sense of humor!

Knightmage
With his insanely awesome costumes and infectious positive attitude, Knightmage has become a favorite among fellow costumers and fans alike. The wings he created for his recent Spawn costume literally made my jaw hit the floor. This man is pure, raw talent. Knightmage has been a guest at several conventions around the country and donates all of the money he makes selling prints to childrens charities. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the 2013 Allentown Comic-Con and he is a true gentleman. I cant wait to see what he will create next!

This Video Makes Money On Youtube!!

Make Movies That Make Money! The Low-Budget Filmmakers Guide
Have you ever clicked on a Google Ad on Youtube that was on a video you were watching? How about an ad that was on a Youtube page located in the top right hand corner?

This is called Adsense and people are making a great living by implementing them into their Youtube videos through means of monetization. Every time someone clicks on a Google ad, that person gets paid.

You can too! Its Easy! Its Free!!

Step #1  Sign up for a new Gmail account. Its best to try and obtain a name that will pertain to your brand. If you make and/or promote funny videos then try and find a name like " my( your brand name)funnyvideos at gmail.com.

Step #2  Sign up for Adsense. Its free, but it may take a few days to get approved. You need to use a Gmail address for this but it can be your personal Gmail. Its best to use a Gmail address NOT attached to any brand name because you only get ONE Adsense account for life. However, you will probably and eventually have several different brand Gmails for different niches.

Step #3  Sign up for a Youtube account with your new Gmail address. Once again, try to pick a Youtube channel user name that will compliment your Gmail name and brand.

Step #4  You have mail...You have been approved for Adsense!! Now its time to run over to Youtube with your newly coveted Adsense ID#. A 16 digit account number that you will plug into every Adsense site you have. Go to Youtube  account settings and click on the Monetization tab. This is where you will find the area to add your Adsense ID#.

*IMPORTANT TIP*  Never click on your own ads!!!! Google is smart and will find out. The consequence is being banned for life from Adsense!! This is NOT your goal. If you need to edit your video, click on the Video Manager link and edit from there. You can also edit comments under the Comments link while in the Video Manager.

Step #5  Upload your video. After you fill out some "Basic Info" on your video, click the tab next to that which is the "Monetization" button. Check the box "Monetize My Video". Next, look below and check the top two "Ad Formats". Overlay in-video ads (Overlay in-video ads are transparent overlay ads that appear on the lower portion of your video.) and TrueView in-stream ads (TrueView in-stream are a family of formats that give viewers choice and control over which advertisers messages they want to see and when.) boxes. At the bottom of that page check the box that lets your video be shown everywhere like laptops, computers, tablets and smart phones. Also check the box below that only shows your video on monetized platforms. No need in showing your video for free.

Thats it. You are now on your way to making Adsense revenue with your Youtube videos. Other posts will discuss networking on social sites and more ways to make money with your new Adsense account.

Debunking the Xena Comparison

0 komentar
At this weekends 2014 San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Brothers released the first official photo of actress Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman from the upcoming  Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice film. Immediately fan boys took to the interwebs to compare Dianas outfit to that of Xena, played by Lucy Lawless  in 1995-2001. I suppose many of the so-called "fan boys" thought they were being cleaver in referencing a t.v. series thats been off the air for over 10 years. If any of them were true fans they would have known that Princess Diana of Themyscira has been rocking the warrior princess look in comics before Xena ever hit the small screen.

Throughout the years Wonder Woman has had many different costumes but she has been sporting the Warrior look since the 1980s, Thats right folks; the 80s which was long before the Xena television series was created. If you need proof, feel free to Google Warrior Wonder Woman by George Perez which was done in the 80s and you will see for yourself. Princess Diana has been kicking butt in it ever since. If anything, Xena was inspired by Wonder Woman not the other way around.  Perhaps you should stop calling yourselves fan boys when it seems like your only goal is to rip apart uncompleted films. You have demonstrated an obvious lack of knowledge on the history of the character in comics.

For those of you who say the movie costume is a rip off of Xena; your argument is invalid.

Cosplay Spotlight Margie and Ned Cox

0 komentar
On my recent visit to Georgia I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Margie and Ned Cox, the powerhouse cosplay couple.

I have longed admired Margie and her husband Ned for their incredible talent in costuming. Their costumes are flawless and their photos are nothing short of stunning. Theres also an element of romance to them; I have always found it romantic when couples cosplay together.  This husband and wife team are quite the dynamic duel in the world of cosplay and are highly respected and admired. They have inspired many, including myself and I was thrilled to have the chance to meet them on my recent trip to Georgia.

Victoria: How did the two of you meet?

Ned: We met in college--nothing too interesting. She had taken Army ROTC as an elective while I was in the midst of my four-year pre-commissioning training to become an officer. She didnt care for me at first, as she likes to recall, but I can be pretty bad with first impressions, admittedly.

Victoria: How long have you been married?

Margie: We’ll be married six years in May.

Victoria: When did you begin cosplaying together?

Ned: Toward the end of college, my love of comics hit a boiling point where I felt the need to LIVE in the fantasy world. Totally healthy of course. Im kind of a big kid at heart and running around as Batman as an adult in 2012 isnt much different than what I was doing in 1992 as a child after watching episodes of The Animated Series, I just tend to be better dressed for the occasion. When I told Margie that this was what I wanted to do, she was a bit apprehensive. She liked comics and superheroes, but this took it to another level. When I told her that I was interested in looking into doing this beyond conventions as a way to give back to the community and help charitable childrens causes, she became more interested.

Victoria: Whats your favorite couple to cosplay?

Margie: Oh, I don’t know what Ned’s going to say, but I honestly really like being Carol and Hal (Star Sapphire and Green Lantern). I think the reason is that we only have two couples costumes (Star Sapphire and Green Lantern, Batman and Catwoman) and Ned’s personality is a lot more of a Hal Jordan personality than Bruce Wayne (Batman) personality. Anyone who knows Ned will probably say that “That guy doesn’t break character for anything.” Ned is naturally a goof-ball and I love him for it. However, as a comic fan (and someone who doesn’t like to alienate new potential friends and bystanders), I appreciate that he keeps that part of his personality locked down in certain situations or wearing certain costumes.

Ned: Agreed. Its great that, after so many years of pretending to "just be friends" as some of our JLA characters, Margie and I finally got to be Green Lantern and Star Sapphire and really be a couple just
like Hal and Carol.

Victoria: You recently debuted your New 52 Wonder Woman at this years MegaCon. How long did it take to construct the costume?

Margie: I have a day job and mostly I work on costumes at night and on weekends, but it took me a few months. That was with the sanity breaks I took, where I would stare at a boot for a week and think “I wish I had briefs to go with those boots…” Four weeks later: “I guess I need armor to go with this corset….”. Five weeks later: “I’m going to get Velcro to hold up this armor since it’s not going to stay on with magic.” My overwhelming guilt at staring at hundreds of dollars of untouched costuming materials is how most of my costumes get finished. I’ve actually been staring at a creepy plaster hand that I’ve had in my basement for a few weeks knowing I need to get started sculpting my Huntress armor.

Victoria: What costumes do you have planned for in the future?

Margie: I’m working of the New Huntress costume and a Sith costume. I would also like to do the new Starfire costume, but I’m honestly waiting (and hoping) that DC caves and gives her a bit more coverage. I really like the new costume, except for that part.

Ned: Im going to work on classic Giant-Man (Hank Pym) from the Avengers. After costuming as Cyclops, I feel a sort of connection to the misunderstood and damaged characters in comics. Besides that, hes a classic Marvel character that gets no respect. And the Giant-Man costume looks REALLY cool. Margie and I are also hoping to join the Sith soon--our first costumes outside of superheroes as well as "good guys." It should be fun!

Victoria: You both do a lot of charity work for your community. Could you tell my readers more about that?

Margie: Heroes Alliance is a charity that I’ve been involved with in some way since I first got into costuming. Basically it’s collaboration of costumers, photographers, and general comic fans who
would like to use their art to reach out to their communities, to charities, and also to support local comic shops. I’m the coordinator for the Atlanta group and I have a soft spot for children’s charities, so the majority of events that we do here are for special needs children. Some of the groups I’ve worked with over the last year are FOCUS, Down Syndrome Society of Atlanta, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Extra Special People, and CASA.

Ned: Margie and I joined at the same time, shortly after the Heroes Alliances founding in Tampa. Ive had the honor of being elected council chairman for the second year in a row and Im extremely proud of our teams across the nation (and world, with our UK partners). Weve built a great community of volunteers who have a very unique role among charity groups in bringing a real-life superhero experience to children with illnesses and disabilities. I love conventions and seeing my spandex-clad friends, but Ive found so much more fulfillment in the Heroes Alliance than I ever imagined.

Victoria: Margie, you are a very accomplished writer. What are you currently working on?

Margie: Thanks! I have a Bachelors from USF in English with a specialty in Creative Writing—my family thought I was insane for coming off the Pre-Med/Microbiology track, so I’m elated that I’ve been able to do a few dark, gritty, artistic pieces which have proven to them that I was more insane than they ever imagined.

A few years ago, I finished my novel, Southern Gothic Confidential, a dark regional comedy/tragedy that entwines the cultural evolution of a small town with the personal renaissances of some of it’s inhabitants. The backdrop of characters is very colorful. In the foreground of the Historic District is Ms. Jane Bradshaw, a very prim and proper Southern lady. She is President of the Red Hat Society and Secretary of the Garden Club. When her neighbor is decapitated in an auto accident, she finds herself living next to his estranged mother, Crazy Deb, and Crazy Deb’s very strange husband, Wild Ernest, who have been certified uncrazy due to the overload of patients in Chattahoochee Mental Institution. This state of affairs sets off a chain of events which will forever change the Historic District and the characters. Luckily, SGC got into the hands of someone in the industry via my husband’s boss who was nice enough to send it to a professional proofreader. After the proofread, they sent it to a publisher for me. It was super nice of them. We’ll see where it goes.

Currently, I found a pretty sweet gig writing a comic with Eugene Selassie called Rock, Paper, Scissors. It’s a 12-Issue story that deals with the super-powered crime underbelly of Chicago. It is morally gritty and I’d like to think that the characters are rather likable although they are in a very ethically challenged climate. It was great being able to work on a team of very talented, fresh artists and writers. It was like walking into a room that was bursting at the crown molding creative energy. We were like artistic vampires feeding off of each other’s talents and ideas. Issue One exceeded my expectations art and story wise. I’m a huge fan of Tarentino and Puzo. We all brought our love of crime noir, modern classical mafia literature, and comics to the table. I don’t know how much more I can say since we’re talking to a few publishers now, but we’re building a damn good story.

Victoria: Many people like myself, see you both as an
inspiration in the world of cosplay. How does it feel to be role
models?

Margie: I’m so honored and humbled that you feel that way. When I started out, I just had a few friends who costumed (I could count them on both hands) and we were just supportive of each other. We’d find a few photos of ourselves online from time to time, but other than that, I don’t think anyone was terribly well known. I don’t feel very far removed from that experience except I can’t count the people I know on my hands anymore. It’s really easy to treat people well when I’ve been so well treated. I feel pretty much the same, but I’m very grateful for any good vibes that I’ve been able to send to people. It feels great to know that maybe I’ve made a difference.

Ned: Im humbled, perplexed, and honored that you say that. Its something I didnt expect but Im always very happy to hear whenever Ive had any sort of positive impact in peoples lives in any way.
Ive found myself in leadership roles from time to time--in the Army, through the Heroes Alliance, and now at the company I work for. Those are all very different environments with different leadership
requirements but Ive found some common truths among them: be honest, be consistent, and take care of the people you care about. Its always served me right.

As for being an inspiration, Ive always been just an, "Im just happy to be here" kinda guy. If I bring positivity and joy to a situation or group then all the better. Ive met some of the most wonderful people doing this (another unexpected blessing) and they inspire me. Its easy to be positive when youre around great people.

Victoria: What is your personal favorite costume?

Margie: Wonder Woman.

Ned: Im going to say Green Lantern. Ive accepted that Ill probably die as Hal Jordan--a Green Lantern Corps emblem on my tombstone. Thats fine. Im very happy to be known for that and I absolutely love the character, the Corps, and all of my fellow Lanterns. Its a wonderful thing.

My thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Cox and be sure to check out Margies Facebook Fan Page to keep up with this Cosplay Goddess!

The Real Freelance Economy by Marc Charles

0 komentar
Freelance Heaven!

6:10 AM

Hi Gang:

I’ve made hundreds of thousands of dollars freelancing, so I know it works.

More important, I’ve helped thousands of people cash in on the freelance craze.

So believe me…..you CAN generate cash as freelancer….and its easier than you think. Got a full time job or another business? No problem, you can do this on the side.

I’ll give you the truth about freelancing so you can start making money in the next few hours or days.

The Truth About the Economy…..

The economy is in shambles, unemployment is still at historic highs.

The so-called “greatest companies of the new millennium” are laying off people in droves!

Companies like Yahoo!, AOL, Facebook, Google, and Cisco have quietly turned on the “layoff spigot” too.

But this is GREAT NEWS for freelance workers. I’m dead serious.

The world hasn’t ended just because a preacher said it would.

No sir.

We both know it’s pretty dismal… businesses are slashing debt, expenses and wasteful spending (i.e. lazy employees) like crazy.

But the world hasn’t ended and some businesses are growing like wildfire!

And many businesses, let’s say hundreds of thousands, have discovered the power of using freelance and contract workers.

We may discover this time will be referred to as the “Freelance Decade”.

This Is NOT a Good Time to Be Fired!

Last week S.E. invited me to lunch at a swanky seaside bistro.

He told me his job as a high-level graphic designer was coming to a close. Apparently his employer is bankrupt, and was closing up shop because no one would buy it.

“You warned me this would happen…..three years ago”, S.E. exclaimed.

He went on…. “This is NOT a good time to be fired. Geez, my wife’s at home with our baby all day…she can’t work outside the home”!

I said, “Hey, it’s not a big deal. I know you’re upset. But if you start thinking like a freelance expert rather than an employee you’ll be ahead of the game”.

“What’s more, your wife could grab a small freelance gig too if she has the time”, I added.

S.E. mumbled…. “I know you’ve mentioned freelancing before. But I don’t have time for little “side projects”. I need good paying projects NOW!”

“Okay”, I said. “Give me $500 and I’ll have three freelance projects for you by Monday (it was Thursday afternoon)”.

S.E. shot back, “$500? Is that your fee or what”?

“I want to see if you’re serious. Write me a check for $500. When you land the right freelance project I’ll give your money back”, I said smiling.

S.E. landed a freelance project the following Tuesday. It only took four days.

Here’s the Secret to Freelance Gigs…

If you type “freelance projects” into Google your head will be swimming in search results.

There are thousands of so-called freelance websites on the Internet. Most of them are designed to get YOUR money in the form of “membership fees” and other services.

Granted, there are a handful of freelance sites worth the money you spend on membership fees…I’ll show you the ones I like.

But you don’t have to succumb to the majority of BS freelance sites on the Internet.

When you’re done reading this week’s issue you’ll be able to can start landing “legitimate” freelance projects in record time.

I know what I’m talking about when it comes to freelancing. I’ve been doing it on one level or another for more than 30 years.

And get this….

I was approached by a senior TV executive to produce a “Freelance Channel”! Can you imagine? It might work…but I would focus on YouTube rather than TV.

I’m the “Go To Guy” when it comes to freelance work!

Welcome to “Freelance Heaven”…..

Take This Job and Shove It!

E.J  worked for the largest insurance company in South Africa as a network “gopher”.

He would “go for” things and perform mundane tasks for three senior managers.

One day, without warning, E.J. was fired….by email. He was devastated and humiliated. He was escorted from his desk, cardboard box in hand, out of the building and asked to leave company property.

The funny thing is….E.J. was a devoted employee. He didn’t break any laws, polices, procedures or screw anything up.

However….E.J. said he made a terrible mistake…and it was political.

E.J. started mocking senior management’s political affiliations and poked fun at them at a local company watering hole.

He violated the corporate cardinal sin: politics is everything.

Anyway, E.J. was referred to me by a goodfriend when he relocated to the US.

When I saw the depth of E.J’s expertise….and more than three pages of testimonials and referrals…..I suggested he start working as a freelance network administrator or security consultant.

E.J. was not thrilled. He thought I was going to offer him a job.

On top of that, E.J. never worked for himself. He worked at the same company for ten years. So he was afraid to go out on his own (without a safety net or benefits).

I told him, “I know you’re nervous about going out on your own and working as a freelance contractor. But you can get a job and freelance on the side until the money convinces you”.
E.J was all ears now.

I showed him how and where to find clients immediately…as in hours or days not months or years.

In less than three months E.J was in business working fulltime as a freelance network administrator, and he quit so “secure” job.  Today E.J is turning clients away and focusing on the highest paying ones (his words not mine).

E.J. told me he’s making eight times as much as a freelancer than as an employee.

That’s what I’m talking about!

And get this……

E.J. was recently approached by insurance company in South Africa that fired him! He never responded to their call or email.

Ive been freelancing in one capacity or another for more than 29 years.

The opportunities are greater today than they ever were in 1982!

It’s no surprise…..the economy sucks. Most companies are firing NOT hiring people!

But, in all the desperation, uncertainty and calamity is opportunity. I’m not kidding!

Most companies and businesses may be firing people in droves but they still need certain tasks done…and they’re willing to pay for them.

Here some of the freelance opportunities in DEMAND right now:

Programming
Business development
Legal
All things Google (SEO, SEM, advertising, back-linking, etc)
Sales
Graphic design
Webmasters
Social Media Managers
Engineers
Accounting and Finance
Network Administration and Security

Keep in mind….these are only the web-based freelance opportunities!

There are boatloads of “offline” freelance opportunities too; such as:
Medical and dental
Sales
Paralegal
Real estate
Restaurants
Hotels and resorts
Programming
Analysts & Accounting
Marketing
Driving

There are just too many opportunities to list!

In this week’s issue I’ve included more than twenty resources to help you land a great freelance gig.

If you need more recommendations or “one-on-one” assistance, drop me a note. I’d love to hear from you!

Have fun and play nice.

This is the “Freelance Decade”!

Your humble host,

Marc Charles

*** Action Strategy ***
Start researching freelance opportunities!
Don’t put it off.
The truth is…….
Hundreds of thousands of people (probably millions) would love some freelance gigs…just like my friend in today’s article.
But something holds them back….or they’re too busy with other things.
At first, freelance projects won’t be handed to you on a silver platter.
Actually…..I take that back!
I’ve had freelance projects handed to me on a silver platter, without any effort. But that’s because I laid a foundation of contacts and I was ready to “receive” projects without hesitation.
Anyway….if freelance interests you then get crackin!

Set an objective to secure a freelance project in 7 days or less (then send me a note about your success)

Ask Victoria Part 5

0 komentar
So for the fifth round of "Ask Victoria" I had my fans ask whatever they wanted on my Facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/VictoriaCosplay). The original plan was whoever asked the best question would get to interview me for my Blog but there was such a huge response and so many great questions, I decided to pick the ten best for this article.
My apologies that I could not get everyones questions in. There were far too many and some of them were questions I have all ready answered in other interviews across the web. Thanks again to my fans. Read on and enjoy!

Emily Ruth asks: What has the process been like going from a low-key cosplayer to the Queen of Cosplay? Your great greatest challenge and hardships that you had to overcome as each new con approached? How as those challenges shaped you as a person and where can you see yourself growing from there?

Victoria: I never thought I would receive any kind of title in the cosplay world especially being named the Queen of Cosplay. Its a bit mind boggling. I was just a shy little nerd girl who wanted to give cosplay a try and really enjoyed it so I continued with no specific goal in mind other than to have fun and pay tribute to my favorite characters. In the beginning I actually dealt with a lot of racism with my first cosplay (Aerith from Final Fantasy VII) and I would consider that the biggest hardship. I also have individuals whom I refer to as my "sheep" who literally would shop at the same local stores I would or apply to the same shows or websites, contact people I have worked with, imitate my modeling photos, even cosplay the same characters that I do. Sometimes they are former friends, sometimes they are plain ole stalkers.  But these women arent considered hardships in the least, they are just people I laugh at when our paths cross. I think any obstacle in life helps you become who you are and I have faced everything from being in a wheel chair, to murder in my family, divorce, abusive relationships and even alcoholism. I always found the light however thanks to my family, friends and God. I do not exaggerate when I say I have very thick skin. I have even taken up the practice of meditation and feel I am constantly evolving.

Russell asks: How has cosplaying changed your life? Pros and Cons of cosplaying for you?

Victoria: Gosh, its changed in so many ways. First and foremost, its crazy that I dont have to worry about a ticket anymore. Im getting invited to these shows or am granted access because of my work and the name Ive made for myself and thats incredible. My first trip to the San Diego Comic Con was in 2010 and I had people come up to me who knew who I was. It wasnt just fans either; I met a Fox San Diego camera man and he said he followed my work online. I couldnt believe I was all the way across the country and people knew who I was and it really showed that all my networking has really paid off. I would say the annoying thing about being an internet celebrity is the idioticy I have to deal with; people who just act stupid. But thats easily taken care of with the click of the "block" button. Sometimes I will spit their stupidity right back at them, other times I dont bother and just block them.

David asks: What is your opinion of the latest Superman costume from Superman: The Man of Steel?

Victoria:  I actually really like it! Its different from any Superman costume weve seen onscreen. I think it was time to step away from the traditional outfit (just a bit) and give us something new. Its not too different though so its still safe. I also think its sexy. Ive been in love with Superman since I was a little girl and am very much looking forward to this film.

WeAre NerdCaliber asks: What was the last thing you read that made a huge impact in your life or thinking? Why?

Victoria: I dont know if this counts but I have a Dream Interpretation book that I use to decipher dreams and visions I have while I meditate. I record everything down in a journal and its amazing once you decode the hidden meanings behind dreams and visions.

Brian asks: I sort of know the answers to any question that could be asked but I feel like one question in particular would have an interesting answer and I wonder if its changed over time: How do you go about "retiring" a cosplay? I know youve had quite a few that have been shelved for good (Aerith for example), but I would like to hear in your own words what goes through your head when you decided that a cosplay has run its course ...

Victoria: If I feel like I have done all I can creatively for a character whether it be costume upgrades or photography wise, I will retire it. With Aerith I was very satisfied with the pictures that were taken (http://cosplaygirl.webs.com/aerithfinalfantasyvii.htm) and had no desire to cosplay her variant dresses. I also dont attend many video game shows so I had no where to really wear the outfit to.

Dave asks: Do you regret cutting your hair?

Victoria: Not at all! It has to be cut after I put my hair through hell one week. I went from dark to highlights to back to dark. It got fried so I cut only two inches off. As you can see in the Alice picture above, its not too short. It looks shorter though when I wear it curly.

Humphrey asks: With all the hype of the new 52 how do you feel about the new costume designs. Do you see yourself cosplaying any of them in the near future. If so which would be the first. Ohh yeah will you marry me.

Victoria: Im digging the designs so far although I am still getting use to Supermans collar. I may try Wonder Womans new outfit but I have no love for Supergirls new uniform. I think  its horrendous. As for marrying you, if Im still single in five years lets do it!

Michael asks: You have been featured lately on several big cosplay websites, and even most recently on EW.com. Do you hope to become a model outside of the cosplay world, and if so, what would you model?

Victoria: Ive been doing three things like a mad woman; teaching, cosplaying and modeling. I feel I am ready to be more active in the modeling world so cosplay may be pushed to the side for a little bit now that I am in negotiations with a modeling agency. Ive actually held off on signing with an agency because teaching and cosplaying came first but even with doing that, Ive proved I can make it into national publications. As for what would I model, that would depend on what assignments I would get but I am open for pretty much anything.

Mind Trickdmedia asks: Best Pick up line when youre dressed as Slave Leia?

Victoria: I love it when females ask me to marry them at conventions or when they say "I love you Princess Leia!". Conventions are suppose to be fun and with all the online Slave Leia bashing going on, its always nice to meet a confident, strong, female fan who appreciates Leia.

Phil asks: Thoughts on being the subject of so much fan art? I could probably have an entire art related conversation.

Victoria: Its awesome! I appreciate everyones efforts and for incorporating me into their art! Ive seen some incredible work and try to post as much as I can on my website: http://cosplaygirl.webs.com/fanart.htm

Dont Give Up! 5 Reasons to Keep On Costuming

0 komentar
The Cosplay scene has exploded in the last few years. More people than ever before are practicing the art of creating costumes, props and accessories. And its wonderful! However, with this new found popularity,  the hobby seems more stressful  than it did in the past.  Many feel there is pressure to keep up with the millions who call themselves cosplayers or costumers. I have heard numerous complaints and have sadly seen many people quit this hobby. If youre considering it, dont throw in the towel just yet! Below are 5 reasons why you should keep on costuming.

#1. You Make New Friends!
You can never have enough friends! Costuming is a wonderful way to meet like-minded people both online and in person who share the same passions as you do. These meetings can lead to a friendship (or even a romance) that can last a life time.

#2. You Have the Freedom to Express Yourself!
Multi-colored wigs, crossplay, fishnets, gender swap, anything goes! Costuming gives you the opportunity to be creative and bring these characters to life however you want! Dont let anyone tell you "No".

#3. It May Lead to Other Opportunities
Although its not a guarantee, there is a possibility that costuming can lead you to other opportunities within the industry. Running around the con with your friends or updating your online port can catch the eye of the right person and you may get a job offer. Ive been lucky enough to work for Gentile Giant Studios, Superherostuff.com and several other companies.

#4. Its Fun!
I wont lie; costuming is a lot of work. The whole process of bringing a character to life isnt easy but it can also be fun! Wig styling, makeup, painting, sewing, molding can all be an enjoyable experience. Once you have your character just the way you want it and you get to strut your stuff at a photo shoot or a convention with your friends , its an added bonus!

#5. It Gets Your Creative Juices Flowing
You never know what you are capable of making until you try. Who knows? You may end up surprising yourself. I didnt think I could make a Supergirl costume or make a pair of horns and staff for my Couture Maleficent but I proved myself wrong. Sure theres a lot of other things I completely screwed up but thats the process of trail and error and I am very proud of the things I made.

Implied Beauty Shoot with Dru Phillips

0 komentar
A few months ago I paid a social visit to Georgia to visit extended family. While in town I shot with one of my favorite photographers and favorite people; Dru Phillips. Dru is a true artist with a creative eye. A marvelous director and outstanding photographer. This was our second time shooting together. The theme for round two was an implied topless beauty shoot. These images are amongst my favorite and are tasteful, classy and artistic. Be sure to check out more of Drus photography work HERE and his Cosplay Photography on Facebook. Makeup and hair by me.
